Program Description

The ELL program focuses on learning English through reading, listening, speaking, and writing skills required to get a job, get promoted, and communicate in the community. Students will expand their knowledge of the English language and have a chance to practice using computer programs, hands-on activities, and small group projects. 

Our program is comprehensive and includes seven levels of skills for ELL listed by the Florida Department of Education (http://www.myflorida.com/)

Preparation for Employment
This program offers a broad foundation of English and language skills to prepare students for employment in a variety of positions.  ELL classes provide students with the language skills required for locating a job, interviewing, time management, dress code, communication/body language, and conversation in the workplace. The content includes job search sources, job applications, resumes, scheduling and keeping appointments, personal responsibility, social interaction, follow and ask for instructions, sticking to a task, and setting goals.

There are a variety of ELL computer based programs used in the ELL classes.  You will need to complete all of the ELL computer based programs with a minimum score of 85% in order to satisfy the curriculum requirements for this course.

► The length of the course will vary for each student depending on class attendance, previous knowledge, practice outside of class, and students' study habits.  The program includes beginning and advanced classes.

Q: How do I enroll in a class to learn English?
A:
► Come to iTECH Student Services Office and complete a registration form
► Complete the registration process and pay tuition amount of $30 in state/ $120 out of state
  - Make an appointment to take the CASAS test (usually the next day)
   - Bring a photo I.D. to your CASAS Test
►Get your free photo ID badge.
   - Replacement badges will be issued for $5.00 each
► If you plan to drive to iTECH, you must purchase a $5.00 parking tag
► Start classes the following Monday
(If no space is available, students will be place on a waiting list and will be notified of the next available opening.)

Q: How many class levels of English are there? 
A: There are three class levels – beginning, intermediate,  and advanced.

Q: How much do English  classes cost?
A: Starting in August 2011, the state of Florida mandates that there be a $30 tuition charge per semester.  A semester is approximately 5 months.

Q: How long will it take me to learn to speak, read or write English?
A: It is different for each person.  It depends on how much you already know, how much you come to class, how much you practice speaking English outside of class, and how much you study.

Q: What is the attendance policy?
A:  Day classes are in session from Monday through Friday.  Night classes run from Monday through Thursday.  A student who is absent for six days in a row is dropped from the class.
